🪞 PERSPECTIVE · THE MIRROR OF AGES
The Mirror of Ages
A grid of human shades, one per tile, each made of dots. Press “Unify the spectrum”, or hover over it, and the dots flow out of their tiles into a single composite face. Move your cursor across the field and the whole piece tilts to meet it.
Twenty-four tiles, one per shade of human skin tone. Each tile carries a place from the dataset; the tiles are illustrative silhouettes, not portraits.
Any two people share about 99.9% of their DNA sequence, a widely quoted figure from the human genome project. Skin tone is an adaptation to sun exposure at different latitudes; it is a surface trait that does not sort people into biologically separate groups. Tiles are illustrative and the place names are labels for the palette only.
